Glossary of Terms
Here are a few meanings to the cadet abbreviations:
ACR – Annual Ceremonial Review (Annual Final Parade usually in May)
AdmO – Administration Officer (Capt P. Lewis)
CadPat - The current Canadian Forces Combat Uniform...Cadets may not wear any variation of this at any time.
CadetPat - The Army Cadet Field Training Uniform that is authorized for wear by Army Cadets and is available through the Army Cadet League website.
CATOs – Cadet Administrative and Training Orders. The "rulebook" for cadets.
CO – Commanding Officer – Captain Schur is the CO of the 788 Army Cadets
Combats - Combat clothing and boots. This older version has the epaulets on the shoulders. It is our extra change of clothes on the FTX.
CI – Civilian Instructor
CV – Civilian Volunteer
DCO - Deputy Commanding Officer (Capt J. Hanna)
DND – Department of National Defence
FMP- Field Messaging Pad
FTU - Field Training Uniform. This is the new uniform that we wear on specified training nights and on the exercises.
FTX – Field Training Exercise – The cadets go out in the ‘field’ to practice what they are learning.
Hooch - lean-to made in the woods (another bizarre thing the cadets love)
IMP- individual meal packages (also known as rations or MRE's and for some bizarre reason kids love these).
LHQ – Local Head Quarters (439 Winnipeg St., Penticton)
Parade - Training Night or Ceremonial Inspection. Very rarely when your cadet says they have a parade does it mean they'll be walking down Main St. BUT, to further confuse things, sometimes it means just that.
Parent’s Committee – The parent committee is all parents of the cadets.
QM - Quartermaster - Refers to both the Supply Officer of the Corps and the Supply section at the armouries where our gear is stowed and cadets get their uniforms.
RSM - Regimental Sergeant Major -The most senior cadet in the corps. (CWO J. Ryan)
SSM - Squadron Sergeant Major - The second-most senior cadet in the corps. (WO A. Boyko)
Star Level – As cadets pass each level of instruction, they obtain different star levels. The first level they can achieve is green, then red, silver, and gold, Master Cadet and National Star of Excellence (NSE)
SupO - Supply Officer (2Lt Pettinger)
TrgO - Training Officer (Captain J. Hanna)
Troop - Sub-sections of the Corps. We are affiliated with an Armoured regiment and therefore use their terminology. Other corps and summer training centres use the term Platoon.
Troop WO - Troop Warrant Officer - The senior cadet that is in command of a Troop.
